Employee Nomination - iowa

Complete the form on this page to tell us about someone you know who deserves the Job Honor Award. Feel free to nominate yourself. (Please note that this is not a vote. Do not nominate the same person more than once.)

After submitting your nomination, the Submit button will be replaced with the words "Thank you." That's the only acknowledgement you'll receive. You will not be contacted by America's Job Honor Awards unless your nomination advances.

Honorees and their nominators will be contacted several weeks before this ceremony. Honorees will be publicly announced at the annual awards event.

We do not interview nominees. Our decision will rely entirely on the content of your nomination.

Nomination Tips

  • Please watch some past honoree videos before completing your nomination, so you’ll understand what’s important to us.

  • Do not use the "Back" button while completing this form -- Your information will be lost.

  • Consider cutting and pasting your answers from a word processing application (e.g., MS Word) to check spelling and avoid losing your work.

  • A detailed entry is essential. Provide specific and concrete examples of how your nominee has demonstrated outstanding character and is deserving of the Job Honor Award.

  • The best nominations present a clear, compelling and chronological story. Nominations that list a jumbled assortment of facts are viewed less favorably. (Our challenge is to capture honoree stories in a powerful and inspiring 3-4 minute video. We're looking for a story.)

  • Please share how your nominee overcame employment barriers. We occasionally receive nominations in which a person is released from prison, lands a job, and immediately succeeds. But what steps did they take to accomplish this transformation? We want to know their story — Not a list of accomplishments.

  • Avoid acronyms and technical jargon. The people who will review your nomination don’t work in your office, and they may have limited familiarity with your professional field.

  • A primary goal of America’s Job Honor Awards is to encourage employers to be more inclusive in their hiring, giving fair consideration to candidates who have overcome employment barriers. This case is made most powerfully when we feature individuals who are thriving on the job. We’ll interview your nominee’s employer in the video, so it’s important that the employer is enthusiastic about your nominee. If the employer only describes the honoree as “adequate,” then other employers may not be convinced that hiring such applicants is worth the risk. We like to feature standout employees who appear to have a promising future with the organization.

  • If you work at a nonprofit and your organization has essentially created a position for your nominee, understand that for-profit employers may not consider the story relevant to their world of competitive employment. While this scenario is not necessarily disqualifying, it’s important to be clear in the nomination that this is not a “charity job” or employment training.

  • Before submitting your nomination, please check with your prospective nominee to confirm they'd be comfortable sharing their story publicly and accepting the Job Honor Award.

Note:  Occasionally we receive nominations for people who serve individuals with barriers to employment. America's Job Honor Awards does not formally recognize those who prepare and train disadvantaged candidates: Our mission is to celebrate individuals who have personally overcome barriers to employment. (We support workforce development professionals by showcasing their success stories. Our videos are designed to increase employer demand for their clients and to encourage more struggling job seekers to utilize their services.) Of course we do accept nominations from workforce development professionals and other provider organizations; in fact most of our nominations come from this sector.

When selecting our top honorees, many criteria are factored into our decision: For example, each year we seek a set of honorees with good geographic diversity (coming from multiple parts of the state, instead of from a single metropolitan area). Additionally, we seek a set of honorees who have overcome a variety of employment barriers (in order to give hope and encouragement to a maximum number of struggling job seekers).
